About Josh Daniels

Josh Daniels is a veteran in government policy and administration at the local, state, and federal level.

As a former local elected official, Josh has hands-on experience in administering affairs for a county of over 700k residents. As the former Clerk/Auditor of Utah county, Josh oversaw the county budget, finance, purchasing, audit, tax administration, records, and elections teams. Under his leadership, the Clerk/Auditor’s office received national recognition for election reforms, implemented performance-based budgeting, piloted mobile voting for overseas, elderly, and disabled voters, and offered end-to-end automated marriage licenses. For his work improving efficiencies and increasing election security, Daniels was featured as one of Government Technology's Top 25 Doers, Dreamers & Drivers for 2020.

  • Utah State Medical Cannabis Production Licensing Board (2022-2026)

  • Utah State Privacy Commission (2022-Current)

  • Utah County Judicial Nomination Commission (2020-2023)

  • Charter school board, Chair (2019-current)


Policy advocacy and government relations activities including testimony, briefings, and outreach to stakeholders and policy makers in the following states:
OR, WA, CA, NV, ID, WY, AZ, CO, UT, TX, OK, MA, VT, RI, MD, OH, GA, FL, SC, NC.

Josh has served in a variety of public policy and government relations roles at the federal, state, and local levels. Formerly the senior aide to a US member of congress, Daniels was a key advisor and liaison for regional energy and transportation issues in the Houston region. He is the former policy director for the Libertas Institute, where he worked closely with state leaders on crucial government reforms in Utah. Most recently, Daniels oversaw western regional growth and public policy for an international charter school company. Public service is integral to his life and political philosophy and he served his country in the US Marines, including a combat tour to Fallujah, Iraq. Daniels studied economics and political science at Brigham Young University and received his law degree from the University of Houston. He lives in Saratoga Springs, Utah with his four children. When he’s not fighting for good government, Daniels enjoys coaching his children's sports teams, competing in triathlons, and chairing the board of a local charter school.

    • Recognized legal and policy expert and policy fellow in a variety of policy areas including election administration, budget and tax policy, redevelopment, and medical cannabis

    • Led a department of 7 divisions consisting of a staff of over 50 team members

    • Oversaw a training and development program to transform office culture and improve operations

    • Managed day-to-day operations for the department

    • Led efforts to support Connections Academy online charter schools across a 10 state region serving over 12,000 students

    • Conducted government relations, regulatory compliance, and public policy efforts to support innovation in student learning in WA, OR, CA, NV, UT, ID, AZ, CO, WY, MT

    • Led efforts to advocate successfully for policy reforms aimed at protecting liberty in Utah

    • Led a platoon of 50 including 6 different functional sections on multiple diplomatic and training missions in the Kingdom of Morocco

    • Operation Iraqi Freedom, Fallujah 2007-2008. Served as vehicle commander and squad leader during combat operations in the Al Anbar Province. Awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for superior performance in Iraq.
